It's December - Is your Smarthome.. Winter ready?

Now that the day is shorter and colder its even more important to actively control your surroundings to counter act the absence of light and heat, we have gotten accustomed to.

Using home automation can help!

Digital timers (included with smart lights, switches or outlets) can always turn lights on at sunset (no matter what time that happens to be for you).

Here's a scenario you could use:

  1. You see on the weather report that snow is going to start falling at 1:30am and keep snowing until 10am.

  2. You create a calendar entry labeled "Snow Start Forecasted" for 1:30am and another entry labeled "Snow End Forecasted" for 10am.

  3. You create a rule via your smarthome automation hub that when your calendar has appointment "Snow Start Forecasted" turn on your roof coils (and then turn them off when "Snow End Forecasted" appointment occurs).

  4. Sit back and let your automation wake up in the middle of night and turn your roof coils on!

This is just one of many automations you could have running to prepare your home for snowstorms.
